Finding the right words to pray

In the Bible we see many prayers written.

For example, the 150 Psalms or Solomon’s prayer of dedication (1 Kings 8:22-61) after building the Lord’s temple.

They seem to speak very clearly to God and don’t appear to mess up any of their words.

Do you feel like that’s what happens when you go to pray? Maybe you struggle to say what you mean and even though God knows exactly what you mean, you feel you mess it up.

What to pray

Is that the biggest problem? Running out of things to pray about? We all get stumped. Some make a list of things to pray which can be a good thing but don’t make it into a repeated script. The Holy Spirit is helping us and interceding for us (Romans 8:26-27). Your prayers are made perfect by the Holy Spirit. It’s as if Jesus Himself is praying to the Father.

It’s more than words

It is what is in your heart that is more important than your words. God knows what you need (Matthew 6:8) and how genuine your prayers are. Instead of focusing on the outside, focus on the inside. Do you mean well with your prayers? Are you praying for someone else out of love for them? That’s more important than 1,000 words.
